Coronado Beach San Diego California

Coronado Beach boasts the largest expanse of sand of all the beaches in San Diego County! Activities for all ages include playing frisbee, skim boarding, flying kites, boogie boarding, collecting sea shells, or a beautiful run on the sand.  My personal favorite with the family is packing a picnic lunch, setting up the shade tent, a good book and nodding off to the sounds of the Pacific ocean!

Be sure to visit Coronado’s fantastic parks.  Spreckels Park, situated in the middle of the island, often hosts arts and crafts displays, live music and is a beautiful place to relax.  Check out Glorietta Bay Park with a small sandy beach, huge grassy play areas and even a boat ramp.  Orange Avenue is home to many great restaurants, boutiques and shops.  Insider Tip 1:  We especially like the premium ice cream at MooTime Creamery and the fish tacos at the Brigantine!

Coronado Island offers idyllic weather for bike riding and jogging.  Just south of the world famous Hotel Del Coronado you can use the bike trail that goes all the way to Imperial Beach.  You can view migrating whales from January through March as they make their way to Baja, CA.

Ferry Schedule Coronado California

Coronado Beach is accessible by the ferry that departs from downtown San Diego at the Broadway Pier and yes, you can even take your bike on board.  You can also get to Coronado Island with a short car ride across the San Diego Bay Bridge from downtown San Diego.

Insider Tip 2:  Rent a vacation home or beach house on Coronado Island and save money!  Hop on your bikes and ride to the ferry landing.  Ride the ferry across the bay and peddle your bikes to Petco Stadium and watch the Padres Baseball game.  The weather is ideal and from the ferry you can relax and take in the naval shipyards and city lights.  If you are going to be in the San Diego area be sure to find at least 1 day to spend at Coronado Beach!
